This blog is my leisure project and in all honesty, I often think I will keep it that way. But then, if you like what you read, and would like to work with me, I would certainly consider it. I am most interested in collaborations with cultural relevance, history, museums, and collaborations of the culinary kind (vegetarian with some fish, drink moderately, love tea and coffee, non smoker). Everyone is welcome, but as someone who comes from a family of “small business” people, small business persons are especially welcome.
What I offer
Travel is one of my biggest hobbies and I travel several times a year. I am offering authentic advice to travellers travelling on self-organised or small group trips, usually in detailed blog posts of 2000-6000 words. I write all my own AI-free blog posts and I use my own photographs.
If you would like to see your destination, hotel, restaurant or attraction in a lovingly crafted post free from distraction of advertising and an onslaught of affiliate links, I could be the right fit for you.
I will also create texts and photographs for your own destination and Social Media Channels.
Interested in working with me?
I have a job outside the travel industry working for the national health service and I started this blog to balance my often long work hours. In the early 2020’s I studied travel health and have taken an interest (and side job) in travel health so I am always open to consulting and writing on topics of travel health.
I hold a scientific degree and have published in peer- reviewed journals and co-written a two textbooks. What I do not have is a degree or professional experience in the travel sector. As a native speaker of German, English is my second language. I do not claim to always write grammatically or stylistically correct, since I learned English as a teenager, and it’s been ten years since I returned from England to live in Germany. I also speak French, Russian, Italian and Japanese to a level of “competent tourist”. According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, that’s currently B1 Russian, A2 French, A1 Italian and A2 Japanese.
As a busy professional, I have limited time off to travel, and my posts will reflect that. My writing is about independent travel on a mid-range budget that is realistic for a European Union professional, in a time frame compatible with most people’s leave and travel requirements.
I use public transport where I can, and prefer smaller independently run accommodation and restaurants over large corporate chains, but I am also curious about straying away from what I know. I am especially interested in visiting and writing about places off the beaten track, with an emphasis on independently run accommodation, vegetarian-friendly restaurants, traditional crafts and nature experiences.
My Blog Statistics
This blog has been in existence in various permutations for about ten years, and has been published on a self-hosted platform in this form since 2018. Visitor numbers have risen continuously, and in 2024 I had 1.5 Million page views and 0.52 Million unique page sessions, with an average of about 43000 unique page sessions per month. In the last 12 months (September 2024 to August 2025), that has risen to 1.75 Million/0,7Million/59000, respectively (Source: host). More than 50% of visitors are in North America, with the second largest group in the Europe (United Kingdom/Germany/Netherlands).
I don’t “really” do Social Media, although I keep Instagram and Pinterest accounts, but I treat them more as a personal diary, so numbers here are not high – 400 followers on Instagram and 30000 monthly iews on Pinterest.
I will post a media kit here which I will update intermittently – feel free to request an up-to-date media kit on request.
I do “pay my way” and “classy on a budget”
In general, I book and pay for my own trips. If I go on a work trip and received financial contributions from my employer or a client, I do disclose, but about 99% what’s on this blog is self-paid and 100% authentic. You won’t find subscription-only content or tip jars on this site – this is why I have a job and run this as a hobby.
The trips I take and accommodation I book reflects my general lifestyle based on income, financial responsibilities and general outlook on finances. So that’ll be Economy Class, public transport, accommodation on a modest to mid range budget. I prefer quality and longevity over luxury and flashy, and I do care for for value for money and whether my experiences are ethical, sustainable and in harmony with the local environment.
I try to give as much practical information as I can with every post to enable my readers to have similar experiences, and I respond to every mail and query. My aim is to attract solvent ethical tourists who tread with care and enjoy a place as it is, and are happy to spend their money on local experiences. So, you find no big cruises here, very few large corporation hotels, no “viral” spots, either.
You are unlikely to find random affiliate links for things and experiences I have not used myself, and neither will you find adverts clogging up my posts here. I mean, I hate ads and use an adblocker, it would be a but hypocritical of me to spam my readers with adverts on my blog.
I write all my own posts and take all my own photographs, with a few exceptions where I use others pictures with permission. So, yes, this shall always stay a straightforward ethical blog with no advertising and rather minimal affiliate marketing, basically for hotels where I have stayed myself.
Let’s work together!
